All Veterans receiving care at Lebanon VAMC and any of our VA Community Clinics can participate in our local arts competition. The five categories are: creative writing, drama, dance, music and art.
All entries to be judged this year must be electronically submitted no later than July 1, 2022 in order to be eligible. Click the link for more details about how to register in the 2022 Lebanon VAMC Creative Arts Competition.
"Our competition is an annual event that provides Veterans receiving treatment at our VA facilities the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression as part of their therapy and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments." says Amy B. Cook, Supervisor of Recreation Therapy at Lebanon VAMC. She continues "VA uses the creative arts as one form of rehabilitative treatment to help Veterans recover from and cope with physical and emotional disabilities."
Studies show art can boost confidence, making us feel more engaged and resilient. The healing arts are known as creative practices that promote healing, wellness, coping and personal change. We encourage Veterans to enter because you can never underestimate the power of the arts!
Winners from our local competition may qualify to enter the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition in the fall. On Tuesday, August 9, all pieces entered in our local competition will be displayed at Lebanon VAMC. This might change into a virtual display, like last year, depending on where the community transmission levels of COVID-19 are at in August.
