Martinsburg VA Medical Center celebrates National Salute to Veteran patients week

PRESS RELEASE

March 2, 2023

Martinsburg , WV — Since 1978, this week is celebrated throughout VA as an event of caring and sharing to underscore the community’s expression of appreciation to those inpatient and outpatient Veterans who chose VA as their preferred health care facility of choice.

Since 1978, this week is celebrated throughout VA as an event of caring and sharing to underscore the community’s expression of appreciation to those inpatient and outpatient Veterans who chose VA as their preferred health care facility of choice.
The Martinsburg VAMC is honored to represent over 41,500 of those more than 9 million Veterans of the U.S. armed services that are cared for every day in VA medical facilities, outpatient clinics, domiciliary sites, and community living centers.
The week also provides an opportunity for the community to become acquainted with volunteer opportunities in the medical center.

“Our volunteers are a priceless resource and play a big role in helping to plan and carry out the activities we do here for Salute Week,” said Terry Stotler, chief of Voluntary Service. “Voluntary Service coordinates the drop-off and distribution of cards, candy, and other donated items for Veterans as a small token of appreciation for their service.”
One of Salute Week’s regular activities is its annual Sweats for Vets campaign. This event is made possible by donations and provided 500 sweat suits and other comfort items to inpatient Veterans who need them.
The Martinsburg VAMC depends on the goodwill of its community supporters for events such as these and other essential services such as the Veterans Transportation Network (VTN). VTN operates nine van routes that bring Veteran patients from outlying areas to appointments.
