Christopher Buser, LCSW-C, was appointed the Deputy Medical Center Director for the VA Maryland Health Care System effective August 15, 2021.

Prior to his appointment, he served as the Chief of Social Work Service for the VA Maryland Health Care System since June 2014.

As the Deputy Medical Center Director, Mr. Buser oversees the day-to-day operations of Finance and Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Safety and Occupational Health, Consumer Relations, and Police Services, as well as the Privacy, Compliance and Business Integrity, Research Compliance, and Emergency Management Offices for the health care system. His principal areas of responsibility include planning, coordinating and evaluating the operations of these services.

Mr. Buser, an Army Veteran, began his VA career in May 2001 as a Primary Care/Dementia Clinic Social Worker at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. In August 2003, he was promoted to the Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom Coordinator for the VA Maryland Health Care System, followed by his appointment as the Assistant Chief of Social Work Service in March 2009.

In addition to his VA career, Mr. Buser served in the Army Reserves from December 2002 to June 2011. While a commissioned officer in the Army's Medical Service Corps, he served as the Officer in Charge of Behavioral Health for the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Commanding Officer of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 309th Medical Group.

Mr. Buser earned his Master of Social Work degree, with a concentration in Clinical Geriatrics, from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, where he is also an Assistant Professor of Field Instruction.
