Free Flu Shots for Veteran Patients

Flu Vaccine

Veterans enrolled with the VA Maryland Health Care System have several options to receive a free flu shot.

One of the simplest ways to get a flu shot is at an in-network community pharmacy. To be eligible, Veterans must be enrolled for VA health care and have received care through VA--either a VA or community provider--within the past 24 months.

To find an in-network community pharmacy near you, visit www.va.gov/find-locations and select “Community pharmacies (in VA’s network)” under “Facility type.” You can search for pharmacies by ZIP code, address or VA facility. You can also find an in-network community pharmacy by calling 1-877-881-7618 and press 1 for English, 1 for Veteran, then 2 for Claims/Billing.

No referrals are required to get a free flu shot at an in-network community pharmacy, but please remember to take your VA Veteran Health ID card and another form of ID, along with a printout of this article or a picture of it taken with your smartphone to show the pharmacy staff. They will use the coding information listed below to bill VA instead of charging you. Pharmacy staff can also go to www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/flushot.asp and click on “Billing Information Card” for additional instructions or call 1-800-364-6331.

After receiving a flu shot at a community in-network pharmacy, please notify your VA primary care team so they can include this in your VA medical record. You can do this in person during your next scheduled primary care appointment, by mailing a copy of your flu shot information, or by sending it via Secure Messaging through MyHealtheVet.

Flu shots will also be available throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System as listed below:

  • During scheduled primary and some specialty care appointments at all VA Maryland Health Care System facilities.
  • At the following walk-in flu vaccination clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. - 3p.m.:
  1. Baltimore VA Medical Center - 2nd Floor, Canteen Dining Area.
  2. Perry Point VA Medical Center, Building 314, Gymnasium
  • At the Loch Raven VA Outpatient Clinic on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Please stay safe this flu season!
