Veteran Arts Show at Maryland State Fair

Creative Arts Festival

The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) Veterans Creative Arts Showcase will take place this year at the Maryland State Fair on Saturday, September 6.

Each year across the nation, VA partners with the American Legion Auxiliary to host a National Veterans Creative Arts Festival that showcases and celebrates the value of creative arts therapy in the health, wellness and rehabilitation of our nation’s Veterans.  Veterans first compete locally, in divisions that include art, music, dance, drama, and creative writing. Local winners then advance to compete nationally.

For the local competition at the VA Maryland Health Care System this year, Veterans submitted a total of 114 entries. The artwork entries have been on display in the 4-H/FFA Home Arts Building throughout the duration of the fair. For the showcase on Saturday, September 6, Veterans will be in attendance and available from 10 a.m. to noon to talk about their work and the value of creative arts therapy; a live stage show at noon will include Veterans’ performances and readings, and an Awards Ceremony at 2 p.m. will announce this year’s local competition winners.

Everyone is invited to attend the Veterans Creative Arts Showcase and show your support for the Veterans. Admittance to the Home Arts Building where the event takes place requires a ticket to the Maryland State Fair.
