The Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center's Cinematographer Romeo Lucchesi received an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences this weekend! This victory marks the second consecutive year the medical center has received this honor.

Lucchesi won in the Video Essayist category for his powerful piece, "Veteran of Two Wars," which honors the life and legacy of the late Mr. Elmore Nickleberry, a U.S. Army Veteran and Civil Rights Icon. VA Memphis received the honor over fellow nominees from PBS North Carolina, WTVI, and WBTV. Congratulations to all the nominees for their outstanding work.

We extend special thanks to Mr. Calvin Taylor, who played a vital role in advancing civil rights in Memphis, TN. Mr. Taylor was part of the Invaders, a group of young activists in Memphis who took part in the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike and had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mr. Nickleberry was one of the last surviving participants of the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers' strike, which aimed to fight for equal rights and dignity for African American workers. This historic movement drew the support of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to their cause.
