Mr. Edward Payton currently serves as the Executive Director of the Miami VA Healthcare System.

Mr. Payton began his VA career at the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) in Baltimore, Maryland as an administrative fellow in 2014. After completing his fellowship, Mr. Payton served in various roles of increasing responsibility to include Senior Department Administrator for the Ambulatory and Emergency Care Clinical Center, acting Group Practice Manager (GPM), and Administrative Officer for the Mental Health Clinical Center.

In 2018, Mr. Payton transitioned to the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) as the Deputy Chief, Medical Administration Service. In 2020, Edward was selected as the Chief, Medical Administration Service for SLVHCS. During this time, Mr. Payton was appointed to act as Associate Medical Center Director on several occasions.

Mr. Payton is the Associate Medical Center Director/COO at Tennessee Valley Health Care System (TVHS) where he has served since January 2022. He had the opportunity to serve in a SES capacity as the Deputy Executive Director at TVHS from September 2023-January 2024 and subsequently as the Deputy Executive Director VA Connecticut Healthcare System from June 2024-January 2025. 

Mr. Payton is a past chair of the National VHA MAS/HAS/Business Office Chiefs group, a 2017 graduate of the VISN 5 Leadership Development Institute and a 2018 graduate of the VHA Healthcare Leadership Development Program (HCLDP). He is in the current 2024-2025 cohort of the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program (SESCDP).  Mr. Payton is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and serves on the VA Regent Advisory Council. Mr. Payton is also active in the National Association of Health Services Executives and serves as President of the National Veterans Affairs Chapter.
