VA2K Walk & Roll promotes healthy lifestyle and brings support to Veterans experiencing homelessness

MILWAUKEE/GREEN BAY/APPLETON/UNION GROVE/CLEVELAND , WI — The VA 2K is a dual-purpose event with goals of moving the body in support of whole health and well-being, while raising awareness for VA homeless Veterans services.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ 13th annual VA2K Walk & Roll will be Wednesday, May 17. Zablocki VA employees and Veterans will participate in this at-your-own-pace VA2K.
• TIME AND DATE: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 17
• LOCATION: Various Zablocki VA venues -
o Milwaukee VA Medical Center, Lake Wheeler Pavilion, 5000 W. National Ave. (Pavilion is north of the medical center)
o Green Bay VA Clinic, 2851 University Ave., Green Bay
o Appleton VA Clinic, 10 Tri-Park Way, Appleton
o Union Grove VA Clinic, 21425 Spring St., Union Grove, WI
o Cleveland VA Clinic, 1205 North Avenue, Cleveland
MILWAUKEE EVENT DETAILS:
• The Walk & Roll 2K (1.24 miles) can be completed at any time on May 17. The mapped walking route is 2.2 laps around Lake Wheeler. Most participants are expected to take part during the lunch hours.
• VA and VA partners will offer a variety of resource tables for Veterans and staff 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Event includes wellness and homeless prevention resource information and live music.
• “Stuff the Bus”: In 2022, Milwaukee VA housed 309 Veterans experiencing homelessness. In honor of that success, the Milwaukee VA2K donation goal is 309 cleaning supplies for the newly housed Veterans. Donations will be loaded onto a bus located at the pavilion. Suggested items: all-purpose household cleaners, laundry soap, dryer sheets and dishwashing soap and sponges.
• Interviews are available with Courtney Zeller, VA2K committee chair, as well as employees and Veterans participating in the event.
• Participants can register on the day of the event.
• free public parking, media have limited parking near Wheeler Pavilion with advanced notice.
GREEN BAY EVENT DETAILS:
• The Walk & Roll 2K (1.24 miles) can be completed at any time on May 17. The mapped walking route is 2.2 laps around the Milo C. Huempfner VA Health Care Center.
• VA and VA partners will offer resource tables for Veterans and staff 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Event includes wellness and homeless prevention resource information.
• Barbecue food truck: The first 68 Veterans to sign up will receive a ticket for a free meal.
• Homeless program donations will be accepted at the signup table located just outside the VA canteen. Suggestions: Hygiene, cleaning supplies and blow-up mattresses.
• Interviews are available with Heather Grasse, Green Bay VA2K committee chair, as well as employees and Veterans participating in the event.
• Participants can register on the day of the event.
