Important Address Update

As part of the transition to federal electronic health records, VA will update how addresses are listed in your VA records to help ensure your information is accurate and your important mail gets to the right place.

What’s Changing?
Starting June 1, 2026, the VA will keep two addresses on file:

Mailing Address: Where you receive letters, bills, and prescriptions.

Home/Residential Address: Where you live (called “home address” on VA.gov).

This change will mostly impact snowbirds receiving prescriptions by mail as we will no longer be able to temporarily change your address with start and stop dates. The Minneapolis VA recommends about two weeks before you go on extended travel, change your VA mailing address. Once you return home, you’ll have to update that mailing address again.

At your upcoming appointments you will be asked to review and confirm both your mailing and homer/residential addresses. If you’re unsure which address is which, just ask—our team is here to help you.

You can also review and update both your mailing and home addresses any time in the Profile section at VA.gov or by calling or the pharmacy clinical contact center at .

Why These Changes Matter:
This update will help ensure your information is accurate, guarantee your mail and medications arrive without delay, and help us prepare for the new, unified health record system.
