Martina Malek was appointed Medical Center Director at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center on October 20, 2025.

In her current role, she is responsible for the efficient management and operation of a Level 1b tertiary care, teaching hospital that holds collaborative affiliations with the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine and the East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. Prior to her appointment as Medical Center Director, Ms. Malek served as the Deputy Director, Customer Experience Tools & Implementation (CX T&I) within the Veterans Experience Office (VEO) as well as the Interim Medical Center Director at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. She has held various roles within the VA to include the VISN 23 Chief Experience Officer and Associate Director at Minneapolis VAHCS; Interim Medical Center Director at St. Cloud VAHCS; Director of the Health Administration Service (HAS) in Minneapolis; and Director of the Prosthetic Treatment Center where she began her VA career as a purchasing agent.

 Ms. Malek is the daughter of a career Army soldier, a lifelong Army brat, and recently, became an Army mom. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), a member of the VA American College of Healthcare Executives Regent Advisory Council, a graduate of the Senior Executive Assessment Program (SEAP), and VA’s Healthcare Leadership Development Program (HCLDP). She is also a certified VA Mentor.
