Lake City, Fla. – On December 13th, the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System held a special event at the Lake City VA Medical Center.

This gathering aimed to facilitate the receipt of donations from the Hahira Mayor’s Office and the local Hahira American Legion Post 218. In addition to the donations, the event emphasized the importance of strengthening the bond between Veterans and the surrounding community.

This event was a gathering where local officials, active-duty Air Force members, and 50 fifth-grade boys from the Hahira Elementary School came together to honor Veterans. The event gave the children and airmen a chance to thank Veterans for their service and ensure that Veterans receive not only the care they need but also the appreciation and connection they deserve from the broader community.

NF/SG VHS Center for Development and Civic Engagement Assistant Chief Robert Coon coordinated this event, “All of the offices, businesses, organizations, and individuals that participate from Hahira do this from the heart. Their ongoing support allows CDCE to maintain a stock of needed supplies, activity items, and niceties for our Veterans that otherwise may not be available.”

For the past 15 years, these visits have symbolized the strong partnership between NF/SG VHS, the Hahira Mayor's Office, and the Hahira American Legion 218.These collaborative efforts serve as a testament to the importance of giving back to those who have served our country.

Bruce Cain the Mayor of Hahira is a large proponent of this event, “We are very pleased to partner with American Legion Post 218 to assist our veterans in Lake City.  It provides a way for our citizens and friends to support local Veterans that are in need.”

“Our Veterans have given so much so that we can enjoy our freedom this Christmas season. Supporting them through these gifts is the least we can do to show them our gratitude.” Cain said.

At NF/SGVHS, we hold a deep appreciation for the invaluable partnership we share with the local Hahira American Legion Post 218 and Hahira’s dedicated city officials. Together, we are creating a positive impact that profoundly benefits our Veterans, honoring their sacrifices and service. We look forward to the continuation of this meaningful collaboration for many years to come, united in our mission to uplift those who have given so much.
