The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System recently activated the Jacksonville North Community Based Outpatient Center and Domiciliary in April 2024 near Jacksonville’s north county.

Remarkably, the activation of a facility this size is extremely detailed, requiring extensive partnership and effort from a multitude of service lines throughout VHA and NF/SGVHS.

One of those service lines is our Interior Design section, which is led by Ms. Amy Gilley-Rogers. Amy was hired as the NF/SGVHS Interior Designer in July 2023 where she expeditiously acclimated herself to the largest health system catchment area in all of VA. Gilley-Rogers was instrumental in implementing new artwork, furniture design and identifying color schemes highlighting Veteran and community pride within the new building.

As a result of her efforts, Gilley-Rogers was awarded the New Interior Designer of the Year award from the Veterans Health Administration Environmental Programs Service, which exists to develop and govern policies that provides a safe, sanitary, and healing environment for Veterans at VHA facilities.

“It was both an honor and a privilege to be nominated for this award,” said Gilley-Rogers. “Doing great work is rewarding, but being recognized by my peers makes it even better.”

The activation of the Jacksonville North OPC was a high-visibility project which garnered attention from across the U.S. as well as attracting the Secretary of the V.A., the Hon. Denis McDonough, as the keynote speaker at the ceremonial ribbon cutting which took place, April 23.

In addition to the critical Jacksonville North project, Gilley-Rogers was also directly responsible for six simultaneous activations throughout NF/SGVHS, including four in Gainesville and Ocala. Amy managed these responsibilities all while completing normal day-to-day operations and multiple facility level beautification projects.

The impact these activations have for Veterans is immeasurable. The Veteran is at the heart of everything we do. Whenever we make a decision at VA, we ask ourselves one question above all else: what does it mean for the Veterans we serve, and for their families, caregivers, and survivors?

“This work is important to me because I come from a family of Veterans,” said Gilley-Rogers. “I understand the commitment, and sacrifice our Veterans and families endure, and I can’t think of a higher responsibility or greater reward than be a part of the care of our Veterans and their families. It is my life’s work.”

All Veterans deserves timely access to world-class health care and earned benefits. Not some Veterans, all Veterans. We at VA will stop at nothing to serve every Veteran as well as they have served us and at NF/SGVHS, we will continue to strive to reach and exceed those goals through placing the right person in the right position as well as expanding our ability to provide world-class health care to our Veterans.
