U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Deputy Secretary Paul R. Lawrence visited the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, part of the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Lawrence met with medical center leadership and frontline staff as the facility prepares to roll out implementation of the unified Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in Oct. 2026.
“This is a process and a tool by which we will be able to serve our Veterans better,” said Deputy Secretary Lawrence. “More information will be available to our doctors, and our doctors will spend less time on the computer and more time providing care to the Veteran.”
During his visit, Lawrence toured the medical center and pharmacy, engaging with care teams about the importance of Veteran safety, quality, and service during the transition. He also met with the Electronic Health Record Change Leadership Team and the facility’s EHR Super User group, both of which play critical roles in preparing staff for the upcoming rollout. Discussions focused on readiness, training, issue resolution, and peer support to ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted, high-quality care.
VANEOHS provides comprehensive, seamless healthcare and social services for more than 140,000 Veterans across 21 counties. The health care system includes 17 care locations, 12 outpatient clinics, two community resource and referral centers, a psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery center, a chronic dialysis center, and an outpatient surgery center, consistently scoring high for services that are accessible, innovative, and Veteran-centered.
As VANEOHS advances toward the 2026 Federal EHR implementation, key leadership teams are strengthening staff readiness and training to enhance care coordination, improve outcomes, and reaffirm our commitment to every Veteran we serve.
