The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System has been named the top VA facility in the country for its 2025 VA2K Walk & Roll, earning the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Live Whole Health Award.

The honor recognizes VANEOHS for engaging more than 1,000 participants — including 357 Veterans and community members, and 732 employees — and raising $17,500 to support homeless Veterans, the highest donation total in the nation.

“This award is a reflection of who we are,” said Jill Dietrich Mellon, VANEOHS director. “It shows how deeply we care about our Veterans, not just in clinical settings, but in every step of their wellness journey.”

The VA2K Walk & Roll, held May 19-23 across northeast Ohio, featured group walks, movement breaks, Whole Health coaching and virtual participation from 12 regional outpatient clinics. The weeklong event encouraged physical activity, social connection and community service.

“The turnout was incredible, but what really moved me was the energy,” said Katherine Dignan, Employee Whole Health coordinator. “You could feel the commitment to wellness and to each other not just physically, but emotionally and socially.”

VANEOHS will receive an additional national award for raising the most donations among all VA facilities.

Veterans and staff can continue their wellness journey year-round through activities that support physical, emotional and social well-being, such as creative arts, movement-based programs, nature-based activities and healthy living workshops.

New support and wellness programs are regularly offered.
