Ending the Use of Temporary Veteran Addresses
By Scott Leas, Public Affairs Officer
The VA is transitioning to a new Federal Electronic Health Record system, requiring Veterans to streamline their addresses into "Residential" and "Mailing" categories.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Nov. 4, 2025) – With the transition to the new Federal Electronic Health Record system, the address options for Veterans are being streamlined to two categories:
- Residential – The address where a Veteran resides, determining their catchment area.
- Mailing – The address for receiving mail from the VA, including prescriptions, letters, and other correspondence.
Veterans who currently have a temporary address registered in the system are asked to update it to their mailing address. Moving forward, Veterans will not be able to use a temporary address in the system if they temporarily relocate. Instead, they need to update their mailing address when they relocate and revert to their permanent address upon returning.
To facilitate these changes, Veterans can update their addresses in the following ways:
Electronic Version:
- Online: Veterans can update their address on VA.gov or through the VA Health and Benefits mobile app.
- In Person: Veterans can visit their local VA Medical Center to make the change.
- By Phone: Veterans can call the call center at 1-833-940-1624.
Print Version:
- Online: Use VA.gov at VA Change of Address or through the VA Health and Benefits mobile app at VA Health & Benefits App.
- In Person: Visit a VA Medical Center.
- By Phone: Call the call center at 1-833-940-1624.
Veterans are encouraged to make these address updates as soon as possible to ensure continuity in their correspondence and VA benefits.
