Fort Wayne campus shifts to COVID-19 Health Protection Level: High

VA Northern Indiana Fort Wayne campus is now operating on VHA COVID-19 Health Protection Level HIGH.

VA Northern Indiana Health Care System has updated its visitor policy to safely protect patients and employees based upon community transmission rates and current VA health protection levels. As of July 22, our Allen County facilities are operating on VHA COVID-19 Health Protection Level HIGH.

Effective Immediately at the Fort Wayne Campus and Fort Wayne Annex:

  • Single point of Entry – through MAIN FRONT DOOR. All staff and Veterans are to stop for active screening by VA Security. No other entrances are to be used with the exception of those seeking Emergency Department Care.
  • All Veterans, care partners, visitors, and employees are reminded that wearing an exam-style face mask fully covering the mouth and nose is required at all VA Northern Indiana Health Care System facilities.

High Protection Level Visitation Policy:

  • Outpatient Appointments, Procedures, and Emergency Department
    • 1 Care Partner per day
  • Inpatient
    • No Visitors
  • Inpatient COVID
    • No Visitors
  • End of Life
    • Limit 2 visitors per patient
    • Recommend no one under the age of 5
  • End of Life COVID
    • Limit 2 visitors per patient
    • Recommend no one under the age of 5

COVID Visitation:

Visitors will be given appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), must be able to physically wear PPE, and will receive just in time training on how to put on and take off the PPE, when visiting COVID patients. Visitors must remain in full PPE while in the patient’s room.

*Care partners for outpatients are defined as individuals assisting: 

  • patients needing assistance with walking or wheelchair 
  • patients with cognitive impairment 
  • patients with vision or hearing issues, language barriers 
  • patients in need of care during their visit or post-procedure.
