VA Northern Indiana Health Care System Celebrates centenarian Veteran birthdays
Ft. WAYNE, IND. VA Northern Indiana Health Care System had the unique opportunity to celebrate centenarian Veteran birthdays with Robert Bohyer, Esther Hill and Linord Kennedy at the Jackie Walorski VA Clinic on Jan. 23.
Bohyer, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, served as a staff sergeant and tail gunner as part of the "Five Grand" crew. Hill, a U.S. Navy Veteran, worked as a nurse's aide and in medical records at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. Kennedy was a U.S. Army Veteran who answered the call to service as a gunner during WWII. These Veterans are part of this country's "Greatest Generation" for their legacy of patriotism and honor.
“The sacrifices these WWII Veterans have made, and the accomplishments of their military service are held in the highest esteem,” said Chief of CDCE Luther Green.
During the celebration, each Veteran was presented with a letter thanking them for their service and a challenge coin from the Secretary of VA Denis McDonough. They also received a quilt from the local chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Family, friends and VA staff were in attendance to congratulate these Veterans for their significant milestone. Some family and friends traveled from as far as Chicago to celebrate these birthdays.
“These Veterans are an inspiration to us all and we remain grateful to their generation for helping to defend democracy and shaping the word we live in today” said Chief of CDCE Luther Green.
