Park a Prescription Coming to VA Pharmacy

By Scott Leas, Public Affairs Officer

New technology coming to help Veterans in Northern Indiana.

New technologies are coming available to help Veterans in the Northern Indiana area with a Veteran-centric approach to medication management. VA is launching the Park a Prescription capability through HealtheVet and VA Health and Benefits mobile app.

Park a Prescription allows Veterans to control the timing of their prescription fills. A "Parked" prescription is on file at a VA Pharmacy and available for Veterans to send a fill request. It will not be sent to the Veteran until they request it, ensuring better control over their medications.

  • Reduce Medication Stockpiles: Prevents accumulating excess medications, especially when doses change.
  • Minimize Medication Waste: Helps avoid unnecessary copays by reducing unwanted refills.
  • Improved Decision-Making: Gives the Veteran time to decide if they really need a medication.

Managing and Viewing Parked Prescriptions

Veterans may manage and request fills for parked prescriptions just like any other VA medications:

  • My HealtheVet Pharmacy module: Select Fill/Refill
  • Medications on va.gov
  • VA Health and Benefits mobile app: Use the 'Prescription' feature
  • Contact: Call the VA Pharmacy at 800-360-8387 and press 1 or use VA mail-in refill service.
