VA social worker makes Veteran's heart smile

Woman accepts award certificate.
Megan Snyder was presented with a Meritorious Service Medal from Interim Director, Jennifer DeFrancesco.

VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) would like to recognize Megan Snyder for her outstanding service and dedication to the Veterans of Indiana while serving as a social worker at St. Joseph County VA Clinic.

For one northern Indiana Veteran, her devotion to serving Veterans was lifesaving and life changing.

A heartfelt letter sent by a Veteran to the Director of VANIHCS the Veteran explained, “Megan is not just a good listener and provider of guidance, she exemplifies the best definition of a friend I have ever heard.” The Veteran also expressed that while under Snyder’s care, “You make my heart smile.”

On July 19th, Megan was awarded the Directors Meritorious Service Award. The Directors Meritorious Service award is presented to VANIHCS employees who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to our Veterans. Megan is VANIHCS third recipient of this award.

Megan’s supervisor, Jacqueline Quinn-Tan says, “Megan is resolute in providing care and linking other needed services for our most vulnerable Veterans.  Her actions and sparkling personality serve as energy for all of us, staff and veterans, to persevere.”

Megan started working as therapist at St. Joseph County VA Clinic Mental Health Clinic in 2018 and continues to make a positive impact to Veterans receiving mental health services at the St. Joseph County VA Clinic.

“I choose to work at the VA because I have several Veteran family members. My grandma was a part of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) in World War II. Before she passed, she would curiously ask me why mental health issues seemed more prevalent over time,” said, Snyder.

VANIHCS commends Megan for her incredible service to our Veterans and her commitment and determination to provide “Excellence to Every Veteran Every Encounter”.
