VANIHCS Chief of Pharmacy Honored with National Award

Senior leadership from the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System announced Friday that Dr. Scott Ganger, Chief of Pharmacy Service, was selected to receive the 2026 VHA John D. Chase Award for Executive Excellence in Healthcare.

VANIHCS Executive Director Jon Beidelschies formally announced the recognition during Friday’s Morning Report-Safe Day Call, praising Dr. Ganger's remarkable contributions.

"Dr. Ganger exemplifies the dedication and commitment we strive for at the VA," said Beidelschies. "His ability to transform organizational culture and foster collaboration across service lines embodies the true spirit of this prestigious award."

VANIHCS Chief of Staff Dr. Grace Stringfellow echoed these sentiments, commending Dr. Ganger's dedication, and innovative efforts.

“Dr. Ganger is an example for others to follow," said Stringfellow. "His commitment to high-quality care and his innovation in improving pharmacy operations have significantly benefitted our Veterans.”

Awarded annually, winners demonstrate excellent and sustained professional performance and promote the professional development of other healthcare professionals through involvement in direct and affiliated activities at national and local levels.

In an official announcement received from the Office of VA/DoD Health Affairs, Executive Director Patrick W. Picardo expressed that Dr. Ganger was chosen for his leadership in transforming organizational culture through high reliability principles, fostering collaboration across service lines, and encouraging innovation.

“Much of the credit goes to others who contributed to my being honored for this award," said Ganger. "There is an entire team of people who are responsible for the many accomplishments that helped to effect change and implement improvements in pharmacy operation throughout the health care system.”

The prestigious John D. Chase Award for Executive Excellence in Health Care will be presented to Dr. Ganger at the AMSUS Annual Meeting, which will be held from March 2–5 in National Harbor, Maryland. This event will bring together healthcare professionals and leaders from various sectors to celebrate excellence in military and Veterans healthcare.

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System continues to uphold its commitment to providing exceptional care for Veterans, and Dr. Ganger’s recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team.
