The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System’s 13th Annual Veteran Job Fair at Marion VA Medical Center connected Veterans with employers, resulting in job applications, interviews, and immediate hires—showcasing ongoing support for Veterans’ employment opportunities.
MARION, Ind. — The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System hosted its 13th Annual Veteran Job Fair at the Marion VA Medical Center, connecting local employers with Veterans and their families seeking employment.
The event, a highlight for the Veteran community, drew Veteran prospects and featured a wide range of companies. According to Teresa Davis, VANIHCS Supervisor Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans completed 17 job applications and participated in 13 interviews, with one attendee hired at the event.
“It’s always heartwarming to see the number of employers who come out and the Veterans who have a chance to find gainful and beneficial employment,” Davis said.
Veterans praised the job fair for its variety, face-to-face networking, and employers’ willingness to hire. "The job fair is a great opportunity and the people at the tables are very approachable," said Lorenzo Salgado, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.
U.S. Army Veteran Dennis Oakley, who recently relocated from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne, attended to explore available job opportunities. “I wanted to see what jobs were offered,” Oakley said.
Employers also noted the event’s organization and the enthusiasm displayed by Veteran candidates. Eight Veteran interviews were scheduled post-event, according to Davis. Employers cited networking with other companies as an added benefit.
VANIHCS Executive Director Jon Beidelschies emphasized the importance of such events. “We are committed to hosting events like these—connecting Veterans with employment opportunities is at the heart of what we do,” Beidelschies said. “It not only supports our Veterans but also strengthens our ties to the local community.”
Davis credited the success of the event to the collaborative efforts of staff and volunteers. “Vocational Rehabilitation department cannot begin to express our appreciation for all the support everyone provides for this endeavor,” Davis said. “The Job Fair would not exist without our teams of VANIHCS employees who assist with all the details that must take place and at the same time.”
