VA Advanced Fellowship Program: Interprofessional Polytrauma & Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation
General Description
The Office of Academic Affiliations is proud to announce the development of the VA Advanced Fellowship Program in Interprofessional Polytrauma and Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation. This program has been designed to meet the growing needs of our military personnel who are returning home from service with Traumatic Brain Injuries, complex orthopedic injuries, and physical and psychological wounds accompanied by cognitive deficits from the "signature" blast injury. New models of care must provide concurrent treatment and rehabilitation, the highest level of interdisciplinary expertise, integrated effort, continuity of care and involve deep levels of family involvement and decision making.
The Interprofessional Polytrauma and Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Advanced Fellowship is divided into two tracks: a one-year track devoted to clinical practice and a two-year track devoted to research. Both programs are intended to provide post-residency trained physicians and appropriately prepared associated health professionals with in-depth preparation in clinical care, research and leadership in polytrauma, traumatic brain injury and related neuroscience fields. In both cases, the participants are appointed as trainees and receive compensation and benefits commensurate with trainee status.
