Acting Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration/Operations, Security and Preparedness

Mr. Jeffrey R. Mayo was named Acting Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration/ Operations, Security and Preparedness on December 1, 2020. He advises the Secretary on human capital management and oversight of human resources support to more than 390,000 VA employees, including 6,000 human resources professionals across the country. He leads a team that provides professional assistance in the areas of administration, human resources management, diversity and inclusion, manpower, labor-management relations, veterans employment, employee development, senior executive management, resolution management, and operations, security and emergency preparedness.
Mr. Mayo served more than 36 years in the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and the Department of Defense, both in uniform and as a civilian, with experience in manpower, budget development, recruiting, personnel, and installation management. After retiring from active duty, he served eight more years as an Air Force and DoD civilian. His military service awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters. His civilian awards include the Meritorious Civilian Service Award (2), and the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service.
