WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced Brooks D. Tucker will serve as VA’s acting chief of staff, effective April 30.
He will remain in his current position as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs (OCLA).
“As our legislative point man, Brooks helped negotiate some of the most sweeping VA reform legislation in generations and he is an excellent choice to steer the VA ship as our chief of staff,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “Brooks understands the mission and we’re counting on his knowledge and dedication to make sure VA keeps improving for Veterans.”
As OCLA’s leader, Tucker has overseen and coordinated VA’s activities and communication with members of Congress and advised the VA secretary on legislative matters.
Before coming to VA, Tucker worked on Veteran policy development as part of President Trump’s transition team. From 2010 to 2015, Tucker was a senior policy adviser to Sen. Richard Burr and the deputy staff director for the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s Republican staff.
Tucker is a retired U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel with more than 20 years of active and reserve service.
