WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will open a new community-based outpatient clinic for veterans in Green Bay, Wisc., on Dec. 1.
The new clinic, which will serve 1,200 veterans, is expected to decrease waiting times at VA’s Appleton and Cleveland clinics.
“The new clinic will greatly benefit Wisconsin veterans,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “This new clinic will mean reduced travel distances, shortened waiting times for follow-up care and more timely attention to medical problems for veterans.”
The opening of the new clinic was recommended in the first phase of VA’s planning process called Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES).
VA will lease the Mattson Building, 141 Siegler Lane, for use as the outpatient clinic. The building will be turned over to VA on Nov. 1, and patients will be seen beginning Dec. 1. The clinic will occupy 7,616 square feet of the building.
The Green Bay VA facility will serve veterans in Brown, Door, Kewaunee and Oconto counties. Clinic staff will include a physician, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, social worker and a patient services assistant. They will provide primary and some mental health care and operate as a satellite of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. The center also operates community-based clinics at Appleton, Union Grove and Cleveland.
The primary care clinic will focus on medical histories, physical examinations, health assessments, routine laboratory work and outpatient care. Laboratory specimens will be sent to the Milwaukee VA for testing. Radiology will be contracted out to a facility in the community.
