Local Veteran Competes in National Veterans TEE

Riverside, Iowa -- September 12, 2011 -- Raymond Banks, Army Veteran from Chicago, Ill. is participating in the 2011 National Veterans Veterans TEE Tournament, being held September 12 - 15 in Riverside, Iowa. Attracting more than 200 participants this year, the National Veterans TEE Tournament is a unique rehabilitation event that provides Veterans the opportunity to develop new skills and strengthen their self-esteem through adpative golf, bowling and other recreational sports activities. All participants have disabilities. Banks, currently receives care at the VA medical facility in Chicago, Ill.
Participants in the Tournament receive instruction and play at different course throughout the Riverside area. The final day of the event culminates in a best ball tournament and award ceremony recognizing the Veterans' success. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn new skills in several other alternative activities including kayaking, bowling and horseshoes.
Participation is open to male and female U.S. military Veterans who are visually impaired, as well as those with other disabilities that include amputations, traumatic brain injuries, psychological trauma, certain neurological conditions, spinal cord injuries and other disabilities. The participants all receive care at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities across the nation, and many utilize VA's comprehensive visual impairment services. Nearly 300 volunteers from the local Lowa City community and surrounding areas will assist at this event.
Presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and funded with help from a host of corporate sponsors, events at the National Veterans TEE Tournament are a showcase for the benefit of sports rehabilitative programs, and the remarkable athletic abilities and personal achievements of our nation's Veterans. The event is hosted by the Iowa City VA Medical Center each year.
