Session 4: Now What? Life After Caregiving

As we reflect on the caregiving journey, we now turn to life after caregiving—whether it’s through recovery, the end of the caregiving role, or the loss of a loved one. Building on the insights from Sessions 1 through 3, we will explore how to navigate the emotional, practical, and identity changes that come after caregiving.

In this session, we’ll address the emotional aftermath of caregiving, including grief, guilt, and the challenges of redefining oneself after a long caregiving role. We’ll discuss strategies for transitioning into life after caregiving, helping you to process the changes while maintaining your sense of purpose. This session will also offer advice on establishing new routines, creating personal goals, and re-engaging with the world beyond caregiving.

Participants will leave this session with practical tools for navigating the emotional and logistical aspects of life after caregiving, as well as insights into how to move forward, find new meaning, and prioritize self-care. By reflecting on the journey and looking ahead, you’ll be equipped to embrace this next chapter with resilience and hope.

The Caregiver’s Playbook is a comprehensive, four-part training series hosted by Guy Maytal, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Forge Health, and Natalie Elliott Handy, MSW, Co-Host of Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Podcast.
