Annual mammograms for women Veterans: A call to action for health and vigilance

As the new year unfolds, we strongly encourage our women Veterans aged 40 and over to take a proactive stance on their health by scheduling an annual routine mammogram.

This critical screening is a key preventive measure in the fight against breast cancer, which impacts 1 in 8 American women.

An annual mammogram is part of the VA health care benefits for all eligible women Veterans, including those who served in recent conflicts covered by the PACT Act. Staying ahead with regular screenings can help detect issues early when they are most treatable. The routine screening is mainly for patients with no symptoms. If you have any symptoms including a palpable lump, pain, or nipple discharge, we ask that you please reach out to your care provider for further examination.

To schedule your mammogram appointment swiftly, please call 650-858-3949 and press 5 for mammography scheduling. If you prefer the flexibility of walk-in service, it's available at both the Palo Alto VA and the Major General William H. Gourley VA-DoD Outpatient Clinic in Marina. Walk-in patients should bring any outside medical history related to previous mammograms to compare results.

In the new year, let’s work together towards a healthier future. Your wellness journey begins with this one vital step—schedule your mammogram today.

We are also offering free mammography screening days for Veterans on January 14 and January 28, 2025 at our M.G. Gourley Clinic in Marina. Please see details under our events section.
