The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center has boosted its water system reliability by partnering with the City of Philadelphia to install a cutting-edge 12-inch valve, ensuring continuous water service and enhanced safety for patients and staff, even in the event of a supply disruption.
This represents a significant step toward in ensuring uninterrupted water service and enhanced safety for patients and staff. The new install will provide the hospital with dual water feeds for the first time in its history.
The installation, which took place seamlessly on September 3, is designed to bolster the hospital’s resiliency by allowing two separate municipal water supplies to access the facility. “This upgrade means that if there is ever an issue with the water supply on the south campus, the hospital will continue to have reliable access to water throughout all areas,” explained Susan McCaffrey, chief of facilities at the medical center.
This new technology will not impact the existing water pressure within the hospital’s pipes, ensuring that daily operations, including critical medical procedures, will proceed without interruption.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to the health and safety of our Veterans and staff,” McCaffrey said. “Working with the City of Philadelphia, we’ve taken an important step to improve our water distribution system that helps us to maintain the highest standards of care.”
The collaborative effort reflects the medical center’s ongoing dedication to preparedness. The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center serves over 77,000 Veterans each year and continues to invest in projects that prioritize patient safety, operational excellence, and the well-being of the community.
