Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Military, Veterans and their Families shows you how to help people who might be dealing with mental health or substance abuse issues.

Why take MHFA training?

  • Nearly 1 in 4 active-duty members show signs of a mental health condition.
  • The suicide rate for Veterans is 57% greater than in non-Veterans.
  • 88% of Veterans’ caregivers report increased stress or anxiety.

You will:

  • Learn how to use the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):
    • Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
    • Listen nonjudgmentally.
    • Give reassurance and information.
    • Encourage appropriate professional help.
    • Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
  • Learn the risks and how to fight against negative stereotypes.
  • Learn ways to reach out to those who might be shy or unsure about asking for help.
  • Understand the challenges faced by military families, including trauma from service.
