Renee D. Coker has been serving as VA Pittsburgh’s Acting Deputy Associate Director, Patient Care Services since February 2026.

She has 14 years’ experience in leadership at VA Pittsburgh, including in her permanent role as our Associate Chief Nurse of Acute Care Patient Care Services. She also previously served as an Assistant Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager.

Ms. Coker began her VA career in 2003 as a nursing assistant at the H.J. Heinz III Community Living Center. She later gained extensive experience in long term and acute care medicine as a staff nurse before moving into leadership roles.

She has led a broad range of clinical and operational teams, including frontline staff, bed management, nursing informatics, inpatient case management, CRNPs and the IV Team. She guided the successful implementation of sepsis early recognition initiatives and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services sepsis metrics, which contributed to improvements in VA Pittsburgh’s Quality Star rating.

Ms. Coker holds a master’s degree in health care administration from Waynesburg University and is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a nurse executive.
