Dr. Deckard comes to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center from the Minnesota VA St. Cloud Health Care System.
In St. Cloud, she served as the chief nurse for nursing education and surgery specialty care since 2019.
She began her VA career in 2014 as the clinical nurse leader candidate for Surgical Specialty Care, working closely with Sterile Processing Services. She served as the Gastroenterology clinic director at the Minneapolis Health Care System for 3 years, where she implemented and chaired the DAISY Award committee. Deckard also detailed as associate nurse executive for the Community Living Center at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Prior to her VA career, Deckard worked in a variety of nursing roles since 1999, including long-term care, intensive care, post-anesthesia care, and as a nursing instructor. Nursing leadership roles included director of inpatient services at a critical-access hospital, unit shift coordinator in PACU at a level 1 trauma center, and core charge for a medical step-down unit.
Dr. Deckard earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Systems Leadership in 2023 and a Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in Nursing Administration. She became an ANCC Board Certified Nurse Executive in 2019. She is a 2024 Healthcare Leadership Development Program graduate, Midwest Consortium Service Chief-to-Quad Program graduate, and a VISN 23 LEAD graduate.
