VA to resume copayment billing for care provided through a Community Care provider

PRESS RELEASE

October 8, 2024

Portland , OR — Starting August 2024, the VHA has resumed copayment billing for care provided through a Community Care provider. Veterans will see a resumption of their copayment charges on current or future billing statements.

This change applies to all Veterans who obtained care in the community, and were required to pay a copayment, as if they had received care within a VA medical facility.

Billing statements received by Veterans in September or October 2024 may include required copayment charges for care that was rendered by a community provider, including dates of service on or around February 2023 through present. Veterans are also encouraged to check for official email from the VA notifying them of this change.

If Veterans have questions or concerns about their statement or need assistance with medical debt relief, they can contact the Health Resource Center at 866-400-1238, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET, or visit https://www.va.gov/health-care/pay-copay-bill/financial-hardship/ for more information.
