Ambient Artificial Intelligence (AI) scribe assistance to roll out in Primary Care

By Justyn Charon, Public Affairs Specialist
VA Providence is enhancing the way care is delivered with the rollout of ambient artificial intelligence (AI) scribe technology in Primary Care, beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
This new tool is designed to support providers by documenting appointments in real time, allowing them to stay focused on what matters most—Veterans.
Working quietly in the background, ambient AI scribe captures key details from your visit without interrupting the natural conversation between you and your provider. Similar to technologies already used in many community healthcare settings, this tool helps reduce time spent on typing and documentation, creating more space for meaningful, face-to-face interaction and personalized care.
Importantly, this technology meets strict federal privacy and security standards, ensuring that your health information remains protected. Veterans will also maintain full control over their experience—participation is optional, and opting out will not impact the quality of care or benefits received.
Providers are prepared to answer any questions and guide Veterans through the process. This innovation reflects VA Providence’s continued commitment to improving the care experience through thoughtful, Veteran-centered solutions.
