Women Veterans from across the region gathered for a heartfelt and inspiring afternoon during the “Giving Thanks for Our Sheroes” celebration hosted by the Veterans Association of Bristol County.

VA Providence’s Women Veteran Program Manager, Joanne Barrett, attended the event in support of the remarkable women who have served our nation and continue to strengthen their communities.

Held at American Legion Post 303 in Swansea, the gathering combined creativity, community, and gratitude. Attendees enjoyed a hands-on craft session led by Kris Krafts, shared a warm meal together, and took part in meaningful conversations that highlighted the resilience, strength, and sisterhood of Women Veterans. The event offered a welcoming space for connection while honoring the unique experiences and contributions of women who served in all eras of the military.

Joanne Barrett’s participation reinforced VA Providence’s commitment to supporting Women Veterans across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts—ensuring they feel valued, represented, and included in community-based events designed specifically for them. The afternoon was filled with laughter, reflection, and fellowship, ending on a note of appreciation for the everyday “sheroes” who continue to inspire.
