Memorial Day 2026: Honoring the Fallen, Remembering the Sacrifice

By Justyn Charon, Public Affairs Specialist
This Memorial Day, the VA Providence Healthcare System joins the nation in honoring the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Observed this year on Monday, May 25, Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the courage, selflessness and unwavering dedication displayed by generations of service members who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy today. Their sacrifice continues to inspire our mission to care for Veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors.
At VA Providence, Memorial Day serves as more than a date on the calendar — it is a reflection of our enduring commitment to remember those who never returned home and to support the Veterans who continue carrying the weight of service and loss. Throughout the healthcare system, staff remain dedicated to ensuring Veterans receive the care, dignity and respect they have earned through their service to the nation.
“As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the heroes who sacrificed everything for our country,” said VA Providence Director Lawrence Connell. “Their courage and devotion to duty will never be forgotten, and we remain committed to honoring their legacy through the care and service we provide to Veterans every day.”
VA Providence encourages everyone this Memorial Day to take a moment to reflect, remember and honor the lives of those who gave all in service to the United States.
