On World AIDS Day, the Rhode Island Department of Health recognized the VA Providence Healthcare System for its leadership in HIV prevention as part of its newly launched Rhode Island PrEP Champions Network.

The initiative aims to expand access to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services across the state, bringing together healthcare leaders to combat the spread of HIV.

Jennifer Hopgood, VA Providence’s subject matter expert in PrEP, has played a pivotal role in advancing the healthcare system’s HIV prevention efforts. Under her guidance, VA Providence continues to provide Veterans with access to PrEP, a medication regimen that significantly reduces the risk of HIV infection.

“VA Providence is proud to collaborate with the Rhode Island Department of Health and other healthcare leaders in this vital initiative,” said Lawrence Connell, Director of VA Providence Healthcare System. “Together, we are ensuring that Veterans and our broader community have access to the education, tools, and resources they need for effective HIV prevention.”
