VA Providence’s Intimate Partner Violence Coordinator, Laurie Harris, attended The Clothesline Project at Bristol Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.

The powerful exhibit raises awareness about assault and abuse through a visual display of shirts—each created by a survivor or someone honoring a loved one lost to violence.

Each shirt’s color represents a different form of violence, turning the display into a vivid, emotional statement:

• White: Those who lost their lives to violence
• Yellow: Survivors of physical assault or domestic violence
• Red, Pink, Orange: Survivors of rape or childhood sexual assault
• Blue/Green: Survivors of incest or childhood sexual abuse
• Purple: Individuals attacked for their sexual orientation
• Brown/Gray: Survivors of emotional, spiritual, or verbal abuse
• Black: Those disabled as a result of an attack or assaulted because of a disability

Harris’ participation underscored VA Providence’s continued dedication to supporting survivors and educating the community on the impacts of violence. The Clothesline Project serves as both remembrance and empowerment—transforming silence into solidarity.
