VA Puget Sound hosted a Super Bowl watch party for Veterans living in its Community Living Centers at the Seattle and American Lake VA Medical Centers.

The watch party is one of the many ways VA Puget Sound staff celebrate special occasions and incorporate Veterans’ interests into daily life there.

“Every Veteran deserves a chance to cheer,” said Congarry Faison, administrative officer for VA Puget Sound’s Geriatrics and Extended Care program. “Events like this help Veterans feel connected — not just entertained.”

VA’s Community Living Centers are comparable to nursing homes, providing around-the-clock comprehensive care to Veterans, including skilled nursing, medical care, and assistance with activities of daily living. Veterans may live in the centers on either a short- or long-term basis.

“I like it here because the staff are there for me when I need them — and not like other nursing homes where you have to wait for someone to be available,” said Army Veteran Cornelius Collier. “And they get to know you like a person, not just a patient.”

Community Living Center staff get to know Veterans and plan activities that make the centers feel like home.

At VA Puget Sound’s Community Living Centers, Veterans enjoy field trips, birthdays, arts and crafts, pet visits, game nights, and more. These activities help build community and support Veterans’ quality of life — social engagement can foster a sense of belonging and contribute to improved mental health and overall well-being.
