Aleda E. Lutz Exceeds VA Secretary’s 38,000 Housing Challenge

By the end of September 2022, the Saginaw Homeless Program and Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) exceeded this goal by permanently housing over 160 Veterans. “Despite nationwide staffing shortages, our team achieved the goal by partnering with community agencies to permanently house Veterans,” stated Carly Huffman, Social Work Homeless Program Manager.

Saginaw is not alone in assisting Veterans with finding their forever homes. The VA is on target nationally for placing homeless Veterans with permanent housing solutions. According to a recent OPIA press release New data shows 11% decline in Veteran homelessness since 2020 — the biggest drop in more than 5 years.

“Our facility has the highest percentage of the target goal achieved in our Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN)10. Eliminating Veteran homelessness is just one of the many areas we are passionate about,” stated Mr. Cauley, Medical Center Director. “I am very proud of our Social Work Homeless Program, not only for their tireless efforts to improve Veteran’s quality of life, but also for exceeding the VA Secretary’s challenge.”

The Aleda E.
