(Date Changed) Memorial Cup Travels to VA Medical Center

PRESS RELEASE

June 17, 2024

Saginaw , MI — On June 2, 2024, the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Team made history winning their first-ever Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup is a junior ice hockey club championship trophy awarded annually to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Champion. The Memorial Cup was donated in 1919 by the Ontario Hockey Association in honor of the soldiers who died fighting for Canada in WWI. In 2010, the trophy was rededicated to honor all of Canada’s fallen soldiers. Today the Memorial Cup is the national championship trophy of the CHL.

The Memorial Cup is in the Saginaw area for a limited time and is traveling to local businesses to share the excitement of the Saginaw Spirits’ win before heading back to Canada. There has been much conversation amongst Veterans considering what the cup represents. As a call to honor, on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Memorial Cup will be showcased in the main lobby of the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, located at 1500 Weiss St., Saginaw, MI 48602.
