Saginaw VA Healthcare System Welcomes its New Medical Center Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony "Tony" Colón as the permanent Director for the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Saginaw, Michigan, effective June 17, 2024.

Tony has served as the acting Director for the Northern Indiana VAMC since 2022. In addition to serving as acting Director, Tony has served as Northern Indiana’s Associate Director since 2021. Tony has extensive healthcare leadership experience. He first joined the VA family in 2010 as Health Systems Specialist at the Indianapolis VAMC. In 2011, he moved to Ann Arbor. He was named Executive Assistant to the Deputy Network Director in 2012 and Administrative Officer for Ann Arbor’s Facilities Management in 2014, before becoming Ann Arbor’s Chief of Prosthetics in 2015.  Tony was then promoted to Assistant Director of the VA Northern Indiana VAMC in 2019, before becoming the Associate Director in 2021. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 23 years of service in 2011 where his final assignment was as the Superintendent, 181st Medical Group, Terre Haute, Indiana. From 1997-2001 He was assigned to the Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, Michigan. He deployed to Southwest Asia as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of Operation Sea Signal. Tony holds an MS in Health Care Management and a BS in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is a graduate of the VISN 11 Leadership Development and the VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion. He and his wife, Sheryl, have five adult children and five grandchildren.
