What is a Mental Health Advocacy Council (MHAC)?
The MH Advocacy Council is a group made up of:
- Veterans or family members of veterans who use or have used mental health services at VA San Diego.
- Representatives from community mental health agencies/organizations
- Representatives from the veteran service organizations.
What is the purpose of having a MH Advocacy Council?
The council will act in an advocacy role to the mental health services to provide a “service user” point of view on:
- Questions
- Policies
- Program development
- Other matters that affect the veterans who use our mental health services
What is expected of the members of the MH Advocacy Council ?
MH advocacy members should:
- Be interested in working constructively towards goals within a group environment.
- Make a commitment to being part of the council for a period of at least a year.
- Devote to the work of the council (2-3 hours per month).
- Attend meetings regularly (once per month), on the 4th Friday of the Month via zoom.
