Veteran musician brings song and service to fellow Vets

Trevor Bohannon, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and longtime musician, is striking a new chord in 2026 — performing for those who served.
Bohannon served more than four years as a radar Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) maintenance technician with the 964th Airborne Air Control Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Throughout his life, Bohannon has been involved with performing and writing music.
“I’ve been performing for roughly 35 years and writing professionally for about 20,” Bohannon said.
He attributes this passion for music to people.
“I have always, from a young age enjoyed conversing with people,” Bohannon added. “I have to say this drives my passion to connect with people even more so through original songs.”
Bohannon has found some success in the Nashville, Tennessee music scene, particularly in 2025 he said, and this brought about a renewed sense of purpose. He wanted to serve his community and fellow Veterans through music.
“I felt an urge this year to give back,” he said. “Performing for Veterans is my way of continuing to serve.”
Bohannon performed at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center recently during National Salute to Veteran Patients Week and debuted an original song titled “Where Freedom Is.”
Below is an excerpt from the song’s chorus:
Where freedom is missing limbs, acronyms, and Purple Hearts
Civilian patriots, active duty, and that’s just a start
God bless our fall, bless our spring
Our right to worship, our right to speak
Bless our leaders, with decisions
Every moment, to be made
And Lee, if I may humbly, reiterate
God Bless the USA
