Thank you, volunteers: The gift of gratitude

We are so thankful for our volunteers and donors this holiday season.

This holiday season, the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, service organizations, and the local community for positively impacting the lives of our Veterans. The Sioux Falls VA has been able to provide outstanding healthcare to our nation’s heroes because of our volunteers’ selfless acts of kindness and generosity.

Our 214 volunteers have donated over 20,300 hours of their valuable and irreplaceable time this past year. They have assisted with escorting Veterans in our facility, providing comfort and companionship to our inpatient Veterans, and driving them to appointments at the VA, community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC), or out in the community. Our volunteers also assisted Veterans with recreational therapy programs, serving meals, and performing other duties in the facility or the CBOCs. They do all of this to give back and honor our Veterans for the sacrifices they have made.

We also want to thank our generous donors. Even though they cannot volunteer their time, ourdonors have kindly donated over $273,100 in monetary and item donations combined. These donations have assisted countless Veterans in need in our community. The donations assisted in supplying Disabled American Veterans (DAV) vehicles to transport Veterans to their appointments for free, recreational therapy programs that help injured or recovering Veterans with opportunities to participate in activities such as archery, skiing, kayaking, and more. The donations also help provide hygiene and other items to our homeless Veteran population.

Volunteer support plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for those who have served our country. By volunteering or donating, you become a vital part of a community dedicated to honoring and uplifting our Veterans. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in ensuring our Veterans receive the care and support they deserve. Thank you for standing with us in this noble cause. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our nation’s heroes.
