Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Health Care System’s Post-Baccalaureate Registered
Nurse Residency Program
The Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency Program (PB-RNR) is a 12-month training
program for newly licensed registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree who have no prior RN
work experience. Admission into the federally supported PB-RNR program is offered annually within
a cohort or group. Each nurse resident participates in didactic educational seminars, educational
simulation labs and verbal presentations provided by subject matter experts. Nurse residents rotate
through inpatient and outpatient clinical departments, as well as participate in a a clinical evidencebased
practice project. Nurse residents are assigned to clinical preceptors allowing for a 100%
protected learning environment. The program's mission statement is to “build upon the knowledge
and experience of nurse residents by bridging academic education and professional nursing practice
to provide optimum veteran-centered care” (va.gov).
