VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) is expanding its popular Healthy Teaching Kitchen (HTK) program with two new course series designed to support Veterans and their families through every stage of life.

The new HTK for Cancer Prevention class launched this year’s oncology-focused series with an in-person session on Tuesday, February 10. The course is taught by Registered Dietitian (RDN) and Board-Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO) Samantha Zanca, who will guide participants through evidence-based nutrition guidelines for cancer prevention, including the benefits of plant-based eating. This class marks the beginning of a comprehensive series that will continue with HTK for Cancer Survivorship on June 9 and HTK for Prostate Cancer on September 8, offering targeted nutrition education for Veterans at different points in their cancer journey.

VASNHS is also introducing a new HTK for Pregnancy series in collaboration with Women’s Health. The first in-person class was held Friday, February. Led by Registered Dietitian (RDN) and Certified International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Lisa McComb, in partnership with Maternity Care Coordinator Monica Blakney-Mercer, this interactive session focuses on balanced nutrition for a healthy pregnancy. Participants will also sample simple, nutritious recipes such as Greek Yogurt with Warm Berry Sauce and Pasta Skillet with Sausage and Vegetables—easy meal options designed to support maternal and fetal health. Additional quarterly classes are scheduled for April 10 and July 24.

Through hands-on learning, expert instruction, and practical recipes, the Healthy Teaching Kitchen continues to empower Veterans with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices that support long-term wellness. Seating for both series is limited, and early RSVP is encouraged.

Veterans must RSVP for these courses, as there is limited seating. To schedule, please call .
