VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is introducing the newest robotic surgical system. This upgrade of their current two robotic surgical systems to the new da Vinci 5 (DV5) devices builds on one of the most robust robotic surgery programs within VA.

“This technology represents a significant advancement in robotic-assisted surgery,” said Ernest Macasieb, VASNHS Surgical Robotic Coordinator. “It allows us to provide an even higher level of care while improving efficiency and supporting our surgical teams.”

This next-generation platform builds on the success of the current da Vinci Xi system, bringing meaningful improvements designed to enhance patient care, support surgeons, and improve operating room efficiency. “The da Vinci 5 introduces technology that allows surgeons to not only see but also feel what they are doing during surgery,” said Macasieb. “This added sense of touch helps surgeons handle tissue more gently and precisely, which may lead to better outcomes for patients.”

The system also features clearer, more advanced 3D imaging, giving surgeons a sharper and more detailed view during procedures. Combined with improved instrument control, this allows for greater accuracy in even the most delicate operations.

Beyond the operating room, the da Vinci 5 represents a major step forward in how surgical care is measured and improved. The system can capture and analyze data from procedures, helping surgical teams learn, refine techniques, and continuously improve quality and safety.

The new platform is also designed to streamline workflows in the operating room. With more integrated tools and improved efficiency, surgical teams can perform procedures more smoothly, potentially reducing procedure times and increasing the number of patients who can be treated.

VASNHS leading VA in robotic surgeries

VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is continuing to lead the way in robotic surgery, and its achievements are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the healthcare professionals involved. To expand its capabilities with robotic surgeries, VASNHS has debuted a second daVinci Xi robotic surgery device in 2025. VASNHS was also recognized for growth in robotic surgeries in other specialty areas.
