Syracuse VAMC and Altamont Corporation to Open Facility Providing Transitional Housing for Homeless Veterans

Syracuse , NY — Syracuse VA Medical Center and the Altamont Corporation will host a Grand Opening of a newly renovated facility providing transitional housing for homeless Veterans November 14, 2022, from 11:30am-2:30pm at 6590 Thompson Road in Syracuse.

The event will feature a ribbon cutting at noon with tours of the site available beginning at 12:15.The Altamont Program is a subsidiary of Peter Young Housing, Industries and Treatment and has been in partnership with the Syracuse VA Medical Center since 2004 to provide transitional housing to Veterans who are facing homelessness.

The new facility has 44 beds and provides services to Veterans for up to 2 years. On-site case management is provided by Altamont Program case managers and, in conjunction with VA Health Care for Homeless Veterans providers, to provide treatment and case management support. Individual and group treatment is available to all Veterans and the ultimate goal is to assist in finding secure permanent housing.

In Fiscal Year 22, the Altamont Program was awarded a Capital Grant as part of the National Grant and per diem Program to expand their services. The Grant provided the means to grow the program from 27 beds to 44 beds and provide additional services and improvements such as private bedrooms and bathrooms and larger space for groups and individual meetings.
