Syracuse VA Employee Named Onondaga County Veteran of the Year

The Syracuse VA is proud to announce that Johnny Waters, one of our dedicated employees, has been named the 2025 Onondaga County Veteran of the Year.
A U.S. Army Gulf War Veteran, Johnny served honorably as an 11B Infantryman, demonstrating the courage, discipline, and commitment that continue to define his service today. Following his military career, Johnny brought that same dedication to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, where he has served for the past 12 years as a Motor Vehicle Operator, ensuring Veterans and staff arrive safely and on time to their appointments. His professionalism, reliability, and compassion have made him a trusted and respected member of the Syracuse VA family.
The award was presented during the Onondaga County Veterans Day Observance, where Mr. Michael DelDuca delivered the keynote message, highlighting the remarkable dedication of all Veterans who continue to serve their communities beyond military service.
In addition to his VA service, Johnny holds a degree in Counseling and previously worked at Bright Path Counseling Center. His commitment to supporting others extends well beyond the workplace—Johnny actively volunteers with the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Eagle Association, UAW, Masonic Lodge, and the Sons of Solomon Motorcycle Club, embodying the spirit of service and camaraderie that defines our Veteran community.
Outside of work, Johnny enjoys riding his motorcycles, traveling, and spending time with his three children and dog, finding balance and joy in life’s simple moments. Please join us in congratulating Johnny on this outstanding achievement and thanking him for his continued service to our nation’s Veterans.
